Squirrel Voice: a wild, mischievous and deep charm - Official release on March 20

Always indie and alternative, the music of Beev Rations' tenth EP moves with ease, rhythm and grace among leaves, trees, mushrooms, grass and roots... the roots of rock and, in terms of lyrics, also the roots of consciousness and its processes. Spring is coming...

The southern, substantial and spirited amalgam of roots-rock genres that Alan James produces in his cocktail shaker, takes with Squirrel Voice a more folk and balladic side, where psychedelic and doo-wop elements are never lacking, all sprouting together with a paradoxical serene passion throughout the album's five songs.

Both the first two tracks (new and original) and the last two (already released this year as singles) have in common not only their stylistic framework in terms of music, vocals and lyrics, but also their particular way of being produced. This is an album, by the way, with an extensive and complex production work, merging in each track two different periods of the band, basically the one before 2020 and the one after that year.

The first two cuts on the EP, Ass It Comes (very BR pun) and I Can Explain It (If I Really Try), are built from basic vocal and acoustic guitar recordings by Alan James in 2018, being then completed instrumentally and finished in February 2023. In the case of Carrotade and Everything's Fine If You Are Glad, these are the same type of basic recordings, but made in 2019.

The exception to this dynamic is the third cut, Feeling Good Anyway, a semi-instrumental crafted this same year in its entirety; a very marching (shuffle) and rather irreverent track, which nevertheless goes through lapses of very beautiful sonic textures that can strike a chord and really move.
